Prior to her appointment with MTI, she had spent the
bulk of her career with the former Trade Development
Board (currently known as IE Singapore). In 2004,
she decided to switch careers and work in the
education sector. "I liked trade issues, but I was
also interested in the education line," she explains.
For the next 18 months, Alpana joined NUS as an
education planner. However, she soon realised that
her interest still remained in trade issues. Returning to
MTI proved to be a homecoming of sorts for Alpana -
coming back to something that was familiar and yet,
new at the same time.
Now in the APEC and Americas team, she explains that
she literally gets into the nuts and bolts of trade issues. It
is the job's ability to keep her on her toes that gets her
fired up. "Every day, new issues and developments crop
up, and you have to handle them. It is stimulating,"
she points out. |
